Borderlands 3 DLC Characters Not a Certainty as Gearbox Boss Says “Data” Shows Expanding Current Characters Might Be Better

Borderlands 3 Update 1.910

In today’s gaming climate, a game getting DLC is all but a certainty. And with Borderlands 3’s focus on not only guns but on character-specific abilities, Borderlands 3 DLC characters being available post-launch is a certainty, right? Well, apparently, it’s not a lock just yet.

Over on Twitter, Gearbox Software head honcho Randy Pitchford was asked about the possibility of Borderlands 3 DLC Vault Hunters, and here’s what Pitchford said:

We are focused on the main game for now, but my feelings are that it might be better for us to put our time into expanding what the existing vault hunters can do and how interesting their future growth is instead of adding new ones to start over with. Data seems to support this.

That is true for some users, but my analysis of the data suggests the vast majority of players would benefit from expansion to existing characters ahead of creation of new characters. Now’s not the time for this, though, we have a game to finish!

Fans chimed in that without DLC characters, people would have never gotten Krieg or Gaige, which is of course, true. Then again, we don’t know what data Pitchford has, so there is a chance it really is saying that expanding on current characters is better than introducing new paid ones. Bear in mind though, the game is still in development, and nothing’s set in stone yet, so the possibility of seeing Borderlands 3 DLC characters is neither confirmed or shot down.
