Just a few hours ago, Activision gave us our first look at the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare campaign with a new trailer, which was revealed during Sony’s State of Play video event. If you watched it til the end, (and on Sony’s upload of the campaign trailer) you might have noticed how it mentions that the Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survival Mode can be “played first on PS4.”
Not only is that piece of content available first to PS4 owners, but it will be timed exclusive content (like what what Activision did with Destiny and the PS4) for a year! Well, almost a year. Xbox One and PC players will be able to play Survival Mode on October 1, 2020! With Modern Warfare set for release this October 25, that means non-PS4 gamers will have to wait close to 12 months to just play the mode.
Remember when we posted how Activision promised that PS4 gamers will get a “day one advantage?” Yeah, this might be it. We assumed it would be an XP boost or something, but apparently, it’s even bigger.
Before anyone jumps on Infinity Ward’s necks, bear in mind that this Activsion-Sony exclusivity deal has been made years prior to the game’s existence, and chances are, this is Activision’s doing and Infinity Ward has no say in the matter at all. But hey, at least all platforms will be getting all modes and maps at the same time now, right?
And to be clear this will be the only timed exclusive content that the PlayStation 4 version will be receiving as confirmed by the narrative director, Taylor Kurosaki.
You can play Spec Ops and every new bit of content we drop, day one. The only timed exclusivity is Survival, which is a sliver of Spec Ops.

Hopefully, timed exclusivity stuff like these will be a thing of the past come next-gen for everyone’s sake.

Glad I play ps4 ?
I see Sony is doing what’s best for “gamers” yet again. By neutering a product for a large portion of the audience. Remember when buying a game meant you just got the game? Imagine it’s 2003 and someone told you half the game was on another console. You would all be livid. Sales of PS hardware makes for a bad Sony. Every single time. At least it now guarantees I won’t touch the game. Why on Earth would anyone support this series?

It’ll likely get worse. Exclusivity is killing the industry in ways people just don’t understand. Software needs to be able to compete with software. Hardware locks us in to a few options that fail to innovate generation round.

But Microsoft started this trend last generation…. And everyone who had a PS3 or played on PC had to wait. And it was more than COD. Hell, the did it with Tomb Raider this gen. So whose to blame???

Yes exactly my thoughts. I hated Microsoft for GTA 4 DLC, Tomb Raider DLC, CoD DLC, Skyrim DLC – all timed exclusives. Now Sony wants to be hated too it seems.
It’s just whoever is out in front. Microsoft does a lot well while in front but usually makes a new shitty thing for the whole industry. When Sony is in front they shit their pants, usually mess up the next console out of sheer hubris and generally outspene Microsoft on whatever deals they made last Gen. They’re both highly predictable. I wish they’d just compete with features already instead of the pointless gimping of the competitors game.
The people that do it over again. I don’t blame all genocide on whoever had the most horrific one, I blame the people doing it. I have no double standards here, no loyalty to any chunk of plastic.
