Earlier this year, a rumor surfaced that mentioned how Activision would be skipping this coming year (2023) when it comes to a premium (read: paid) Call of Duty release. Well, Activision has just put that rumor to rest, as the publisher confirmed that there will be a Call of Duty 2023 game for fans.

This was revealed by Activision in its latest quarterly financials report. In it, the publisher mentioned that they are looking forward to carrying the momentum brought on by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 into 2023.

  • Following a three-year period in which Call of Duty reached well over half a billion players and delivered a step change increase in engagement and player investment, these launches mark the start of a new era intended to take the franchise to new heights. Activision is looking forward to building on its current momentum in 2023, with plans for next year including the most robust Call of Duty live operations to date, the next full premium release in the blockbuster annual series, and even more engaging free-to-play experiences across platforms.

It’s currently unknown which Call of Duty studio will be making the 2023 game, but odds are, it’ll be Treyarch given Infinity Ward just released Modern Warfare 2, and Sledgehammer Games released Vanguard last year.

Given how well the series has been selling, with Modern Warfare 2 already crossing over the $1B mark, it’s not surprising that Activision wants to push a new Call of Duty game next year. And let’s face it, it’s something franchise fans expect anyway.

No platforms, official title or other details are known just yet, though those on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC should expect it on their platform.
