Call of Duty on Steam Sees 300K Concurrents Buoyed by Black Ops 6’s Launch; Highest Since Warzone’s Release
Though despite being available on Xbox Game Pass PC, it seems that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 has drawn in a hefty amount of players over on Steam during its launch, with the Call of Duty app soaring to over 300K concurrent players, the highest it’s almost seen in nearly two years.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Looks to Be Doing Pretty Good Sales Wise on Steam
Though we don’t have official sales data for Call of Duty Black Ops 6, it does seem that the title is doing pretty well on PC, specifically the Steam version as it saw a concurrent peak of 306K players during its launch weekend according to SteamDB. A pretty large uptick in players, considering the Call of Duty app typically averaged around 60K daily before the launch of Black Ops 6.

Now it’s important to point out that the game isn’t a single title, as the Call of Duty app is considered to be more of a launcher, containing Modern Warfare 2, MW3, Cold War, and Warzone all under the same application. This means that while the title saw over 300K concurrent players, it does not mean that all of those were for Black Ops 6. Though considering what the title was averaging before the release of Black Ops 6, I think it’s safe to say the title has brought in a massive amount of new and returning players.
That’s more impressive considering that the title is available for “free” for Xbox Game Pass PC subscribers, which can be had for $12 a month. A much cheaper alternative than fleshing out a full $70, though that does mean you do have to stay subscribed to the service to maintain access to the game. Which could ultimately end up costing more after 5-6 months than outright buying the game, if you solely subscribed for Call of Duty. It’s still a cheaper alternative at the moment, and to see Steam still managing to pull in these numbers for a premium experience.
To further put that into perspective, that 491,670 all-time peak was a number achieved by the application when Warzone 2.0 launched (2022), a free-to-play Call of Duty that required no payment whatsoever to play. Call of Duty Modern Warfare III (2023) launched the following year, with Steam reaching 190K concurrent players. So as of now, it seems that the launch of Black Ops 6 has been the biggest one the franchise has seen on Steam so far under the Call of Duty app umbrella.
Activision and Xbox have yet to release any statistics to tell us how many players have played during the opening weekend launch, nor have they released any sales data, though we do expect to hear about one of those sometime this week. Nonetheless, I think it’s a safe bet to say that the title has garnered quite the player base at launch, giving how successful it looks to be doing on Steam at the moment.
