Call of Duty Warzone 2 Ricochet Anti-Cheat Update Will Now Detect Third-Party Hardware Like Cronus and More

A progress update for Call of Duty’s Ricochet anti-cheat software has just been released, and it notes new features added to the system, including third-party hardware detection, a replay investigation tool, and more. Read on for the Call of Duty Warzone 2 Ricochet Anti-Cheat update that’s now live for both Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2! Players can be reprimanded by these new systems if caught cheating.

THIRD-PARTY HARDWARE DEVICE DETECTION

A new third-party hardware detection tool has been added that will detect if the player is using a third-party hardware device. These devices, such as Cronus Max and XIM, are used as a passthrough for controllers, giving users an unfair advantage over standard controller users through scripts. With the new tool, however, players may receive a ban should the system detect them. Interestingly, initial detection of third-party hardware will not result in an outright ban, but rather a warning, and additional violations will lead to either more warnings, deployment of mitigations, suspensions, and the eventual ban. In other words, players who have been detected using the hardware will not necessarily be reprimanded from the get-go. According to Activision, testing on this is now complete, and has been deployed globally across all platforms.

REPLAY INVESTIGATION TOOL

Aside from this, players can now watch matches of other users to investigate any possible cheating activity with the help of a replay tool. Any players caught via the tool will be banned permanently, with the player’s data removed from any leaderboards, including the Ranked Play Top 250 chart. New in-game mitigations are also put in place to deter any detected cheating activity while allowing the developers to collect data in the process.

Ricochet is still being worked on for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2, so we may yet see even more features for the anti-cheat system in the future.
