Crimson Desert Censorship Upsets Community, Devs Then Say It’s Just a Bug
Crimson Desert has been one of the biggest gaming successes of the year. Players praised the game at launch, reviews were strong, and the title reportedly sold more than five million copies in less than a month.
But now the game is facing backlash online after players noticed changes made to one of the female character outfits after update 1.06.00, which also introduced the highly requested Material Extraction system.
What is this controversy this time that has the community in an uproar? You might not believe it unless you see it.
Crimson Desert Devs Promise Fix After Censorship Backlash

The backlash started after players discovered that Damiane’s “Elegant Carmine” outfit had been modified. The recent update added black shorts underneath the character’s armor and skirt.
Players also argued that the changes felt unnecessary because they were made after the game had already become a major commercial success.
The backlash also led to negative Steam reviews, with many players demanding that Pearl Abyss reverse the changes and restore the original outfit design. Some also said they would refund the game if it were still possible.
However, Pearl Abyss has now responded to the controversy in today’s patch and clarified that the outfit change was unintentional and actually caused by a bug introduced in the latest update. According to the developers, the issue will be fixed in the next patch.
Here’s the exact statement from Pearl Abyss:
- [Damiane] While fixing an issue where the Elegant Carmine Leather Armor would clip, its appearance was unintentionally altered.
This issue will be resolved in the next patch.
In other news, Crimson Desert’s story was reportedly decided at the last minute, as developers reveal internal struggles and a “yes men” workplace culture.
