Crusader Kings 3 Update 1.017 Patch Notes | Crusader Kings 3 May 17 Patch Notes:

Update: Paradox revealed the changelog for today’s update!

The Royal Court is in session!

  • Kings and Emperors now have access to their own Royal Court. A fully realised 3D throne room that houses your ruler, their courtiers, family and vassals.
    • There are four distinct styles dependent on your culture, as well as variations depending on your court grandeur.
    • Grandeur is now an important part of the court. Increase it to reap large diplomatic benefits, unlock new Council Jobs, gain special Traits, and more. Just make sure to manage your courtiers’ expectations or they may revolt against you for not providing the right amenities.
    • There are four distinct categories of Amenities. Increasing their level will increase your grandeur and the happiness of your courtiers.
    • The type of court you have can change depending on your own cultural ethos. Each of these types will grant you benefits that scale alongside your grandeur.
    • Court Languages are now available. Choose which language should be spoken within your court. Either choose the language of a grander court, leeching off their grandeur to your own, or propagate the language you like and reap the benefits of having others adopt it.
    • Invite vassals and subjects to air their grievances in front of the throne. Increase your grandeur and gain different benefits as you arbitrate on various problems and challenges.
      • If you have a liege of your own, take the time to pay homages in gold to him, or petition for their help in all kinds of matters of state.
    • Court artifacts have been added to the game. Collect legendary artifacts and decorate your throne room with them to increase your grandeur and gain additional benefits.
    • Experience life at court with unique events that will take place within the walls of the throne room.
  • You can now inspire other characters to make new artifacts. Fund their great works of art and daring expeditions to gain artifacts from masterwork swords and opulent crowns to the Ark of the Covenant.
  • In addition, other Artifact related actions have been added to the game:
    • Commission an artifact (as long as you have an Antiquarian),
    • Challenge a Ruler for an Artifact you have a claim on.
    • Start a Scheme to steal an Artifact you have a claim on.
  • An Inventory system has been added to the game. Characters can now carry Artifacts on their person. Equip weapons, armour, regalia, headgear, and up to four trinkets.
    • The new Artifacts have durability and a history that confirms who has claim over them.
  • Royal court brings with it a plethora of new court positions, some of which only available when certain conditions are met. Hire a Personal Champion to protect you on your day to day or hire a Food Taster to make sure your food is up to standard.
  • New Council Tasks have been added to the game, like Promote Cultural Acceptance (Steward) and Manage Royal Guards (Marshal).
  • The culture system has been completely overhauled. They are now made up of several different components, making each and every one unique:
    • Acceptance: Cultures now have acceptance scores with all other cultures, which determines how well they get along.
    • Ethos represents the spirit of each culture. This determines the baseline of the cultural acceptance and which traditions are easier or harder to adopt.
    • Traditions give each culture a unique flair. Each has their own modifiers, changes to rules, interactions, and more.
  • On top of the new components, cultures can also be Hybridised, diverged and reformed.
    • Hybrid cultures are a melding of two cultures together, creating a new one with aspects of both. You can pick and choose between pillars and traditions to create something that will thrive.
    • Diverge culture to break away from your culture by selecting a new ethos and changing your traditions to fit your current situation.
    • Reform a culture by changing existing traditions, ethos, or pillars over a long period of time.
  • A new Dynasty Legacy Path has been added to the game: Customs. This path focuses on peaceful coexistence and the running of a prosperous multicultural realm.
  • New Portrait assets have been added to the Barbershop, such as the Iron crown of Lombardy, the Crown of Justinian and the Sassanid Crown.
  • Personal languages have been added to the game. Your ruler is now able to learn a number of languages outside their own. Knowing someone’s languages reduces any of their opinion penalties towards you.
  • New Men-At-Arms have been added to the game, like the Monaspa heavy cavalry, and the Nile Archers.
  • You can now change the name of your ruler. Pick from a list of names or give them your own original name.
  • New character animations have been added to the game.
  • You can now change the map colour of titles you are allowed to rename.
  • You can now pick the map colour of your new faith when you create a new one.
  • The Gardener trait has been added to the list of Character Traits.
  • The Coat of Arms Designer has been added to the game. You can now design your very own Coat of Arms and apply it to your House, Dynasty, and/or Title. Adjust existing designs, create new ones from scratch, or randomise a design.
