While Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t really launch in a favorable state, it’s hard to argue against what CD Projekt RED has done for the RPG, as the studio toiled away adding update after update until it lived up to the studio’s initial promise. With that promise now delivered, the studio is officially ending development on Cyberpunk 2077 and this is to focus on the next Witcher game.

This was revealed by the company in its quarterly earnings report, where it mentions how the vast majority of the studio is now working on “Polaris” which is the codename for the next Witcher game that’s yet to be given a proper title.

Per the report, the studio is set to exit pre-production, and will enter full production later this year. CDPR pouring most of its resources into the next Witcher game isn’t new, as just in March, the studio mentioned how they are allocating 64% of the workforce to it.

While Cyberpunk 2077 seems to be a closed book now, that doesn’t mean the franchise is dead. On the contrary, CD Projekt RED is already working on a sequel which has the current codename of “Orion” and is in the early stages of development.

Will we hear anything about the new Witcher game later this year? Probably not, but fans can take comfort that 400 people are now working on it full-time.

The next Witcher game currently has no title, but we do know it’s set to be released on consoles and PC.

and yet, they still haven’t ever added a NG+ feature. The Witcher 3 got NG+ as free dlc, not sure why they can’t do the same for Cyberpunk or add it with a free title update like Spiderman 2.
