The Witcher 4 Won’t Be “Witcher 3 in New Clothing,” CDPR Adding New Gameplay Elements and Mechanics

The Witcher 4

While we already know CD Projekt RED is working the next Witcher game (which we’ll refer to as The Witcher 4 in the article), don’t expect it to be too similar to the highly-praised The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, as the developers have confirmed that players shouldn’t expect the new in-development game to be “Witcher 3 in new clothing.”

This was mentioned by CD Projekt RED Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski in the studio’s latest financial earnings report Q&A. When asked about the development of The Witcher 4 and whether people can expect the usual pre-production to launch phase of 2-3 years, Michal refrained from answering it, and cited how they are adding new gameplay elements and new game mechanics in the upcoming Witcher game, as part of the development process.

“I guess what I’m saying is that you should not be expecting “The Witcher 3 in new clothing” of sorts; of course we’re building on the shoulders of what came before, and on what we’ve learned, but we will be adding new gameplay elements and new mechanics that you have not seen in our previous games. I’d say – doing such things is always a risk; it’s not just repeating what was done before.”Michal Nowakowski, CDPR Joint CEO

This is definitely good news in my book, as CDPR isn’t just expecting the Witcher name to carry the game, and instead is working on making sure there’s something new for franchise fans to experience.

While the new Witcher game still has no title or release window, CD Projekt RED is doubling up on its development, as the studio has allocated over 64% of the development team on it.

So it won’t be a glitch filled mess for 12 months straight after launch either? Good news I guess from a studio that lost the gaming worlds’ respect a LONG time ago now.

The overall sales of Cyberpunk says something totally different on “losing the gaming world’s respect.
