CD Projekt Red recently shared that Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty cost the company nearly $86 million in production and marketing costs. This comes from a presentation the company gave during a recent Investor Day.
It’s a lengthy video, but around two hours and 15 minutes in, Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz stepped up on stage to discuss the game’s sales and the costs that went into making it. He shared that the game cost the company 275 million PLN, or roughly $63.6 million USD, in direct production expenditures. It also cost the company 95 million PLN, or roughly $22 million USD. Doing some quick math, that means the entire release cost the company roughly $85.6 million USD.
Nielubowicz also stated that bringing the 2.0 update to the game and porting it to modern consoles cost the company 178 million PLN, or roughly $41.2 million. That means that all in all, Cyberpunk 2077 has received nearly $127 million USD worth of updates since its initial launch.
All in the investments have clearly paid off for CD Projekt Red. Just earlier this week, they reported that Cyberpunk 2077 had surpassed 25 million downloads, and its new DLC Phantom Liberty had surpassed 3 million downloads in the span of a week. The game has also hit some record high player counts on Steam since the DLC’s release.
