Dead Cells Crosses 10 Million Copies Sold; Developer Promises Updates Through 2025

Developer Evil Empire and Motion Twin announced today that their indie roguelite title, Dead Cells, has crossed over 10 million copies in unit sales in the past six years with the game’s initial Early Access launch on Steam in the year 2017.

Over the years, Dead Cells has seen a plethora of 34 free updates and a mobile version of the title being launched, which all have helped the developer reach at this point of success. The 10 million sales are even more impressive when considering the fact that Dead Cells is an indie title.

Dead Cells also met with a lot of critical acclaim. The title has managed to win awards including Best Indie Game of 2018 at the Golden Joystick Awards, Best Action Game of 2018 at The Game Awards, and Best Indie Game of 2018 at the New York Game Awards.

By adding chunky content including, numerous weapons, item additions, enhancements, extra levels, a host of enemies, paid DLCs, and crossovers with other popular indie games, Motion Twin has managed to attract more players and hook current players to Dead Cells.

Motion Twin also confirms that more updates will be coming to Dead Cells through 2025 and that the “studio is tinkering with its time-tested methodology, experimenting with ideas for future updates and new ways for fans to enjoy one of their favorite roguelikes.”
