dead space pause

EA has released the Dead Space expanded gameplay walkthrough that features over eight minutes of gameplay! What’s more, this new gameplay video also gives us a look at the new stuff Motive Studio applied to the remake.

Some of the new features and mechanics gamers will see for the first time include:

  • Isaac is now fully voiced: our protagonist will call out teammates’ names when in trouble alongside other exposition dialogue.
  • No loading sequences: the moment Isaac boards the Ishimura, and even transitioning to different destinations, there will be no load times.
  • Full Zero G experiences (no more leaping around platforms with zero gravity, as Isaac can now float in 360 degrees and use a propulsion boost that Isaac can use to dodge enemies in space.
  • New story moments – During chapter 2 Isaac must obtain higher security clearance off the dead Captain’s Rig. The Captain’s corpse is attacked by an Infector, causing him to turn into a necromorph. In the 2008 sequence, players watch the change safely behind glass. In the remake, Isaac experiences this horrifying transformation up close and personal, harkening back to the dramatic real-time necromorph transformation at the beginning of Dead Space 2.
  • Exploration encouraged, as more loot containers and locked doors have been added to the Ishimura. Once Isaac obtains the necessary security clearance, players are incentivized to return to previously cleared areas uncover upgrade materials and resources.
  • New side quest revealing a bit more about Isaac’s missing partner Nicole
  • Expanded weapon upgrade paths: new weapon upgrade items can be attached to the Plasma Cutter, Pulse Rifle and the like, which will add extra upgrade paths players can spend nodes on.
  • New small details that enhance the narrative: In the remake, Isaac now builds his Plasma Cutter out of composite parts at a workbench instead of simply picking it up, which further adds

As someone who finished the Dead Space trilogy and loved it (well, DS3 not that much), I cannot wait to dive into the universe again early next year.

Dead Space will be released on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC this January 27, 2023.
