Sonic Unleashed, the 2008 game released on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and even the PS2, has now gotten a second life thanks to some hardcore Sonic the Hedgehog fans. Dubbed “Sonic Unleashed Recompiled,” some very talented and dedicated fans have managed to get Xbox 360’s 2008 version of the game ported to PC.

This is no simple port, either, as the unofficial PC version also comes with a host of improvements and even Steam Deck support.

Unleashed Recompiled Uses No Game Assets, Which Means You’ll Need to Own a Copy to Play It

Sonic fans looking to replay the 2008 Sonic Unleashed on PC; well, that dream is finally here! As shown in the trailer above, Sonic Unleashed Recompiled is a fan project that recompiles the game in order for it to run on PC. You’ll need to own the original Xbox 360 version of the game and get it on your PC yourself, as the project doesn’t use or provide any assets from the game itself. Instead, it recompiles an existing copy into a playable PC version.

This is no simple and emulated port of some kind either, as Sonic Unleashed Recompiled is loaded with new enhancements for PCs to take advantage of. They are as follows:

  • Options Menu – A Completely new menu that features new quality of life improvements and graphical options.
  • Achievements – Fully recreated so you can earn them.
  • Custom Localization
  • High Fidelity – Options to have the same vibrant color of the PS3 version exists, as well as the filter applied on the Xbox 360 version.
  • High Resolution Enhancements
  • High Performance Renderer
  • High Frame Rate Support
  • Ultrawide Support
  • Extended Controller Features
  • Low Input Latency
  • Asynchronous Shader Compilation
  • Support for Xbox and PlayStation Controller Icons
  • Quality of Life Options
  • Steam Deck Support
  • Mod Support

This is yet another example of a game’s community banding together to produce something incredible. Hopefully, SEGA doesn’t force the community to take this down.
