Destiny – Bungie Wants Everyone To Be Able to Play It

Bungie wants their new IP Destiny to appeal to everyone – people of all ages and all skill levels.

Speaking to Shack News, Bungie’s Jason Jones said, “If you have the basic coordination to play a shooter, you can experience all Destiny has to offer.”

“All core activities can be able to be enjoyed by a novice player, even as we we get into those complex six-player activities, like raids.”

Jones added that Bungie wants “everybody that wants to play to be able to play Destiny.” Not everyone is able to invest the sort of time any energy many hardcore gamers can afford to put into titles like these. He admits that a lof of gamers “don’t want to work hard, they don’t want to read, they don’t want to go on the internet to figure out our bullshit”.

“They want to be entertained, they want to become heroes, they want to feel things they don’t feel in their everyday lives. So our core experience has to be delivered as simply and directly as possible.”

While keeping things inviting for the more casual player, Bungie does have plans to keep the more advanced player hooked. The team knows striking a balance between the two demographics can be a challenge, but Jones said, “We’re going to succeed, because we’re advanced players. We play our own game all the time. We’d go crazy if it was anything less than fun.”

Do you think Bungie is taking the noble route here, or might they stumble trying to cater to a wider audience?

Destiny was revealed earlier today as an always online, first-person “shared world shooter” available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and future-generation hardware. Learn more about Destiny and check out some of the first gameplay footage here.
