Diablo 4 Community Outraged Over In-Game Shop Ads

Diablo 4 in-game shop ads

There is another controversy stemming from Diablo 4, resulting from a new addition by Blizzard. When launching the game after the 1.1.2 patch released yesterday, players are greeted with a pop-up mentioning that there are some new cosmetics on sale at the in-game shop, and this didn’t go down well within the community, with reactions ranging from “mildly infuriating” to “irritating.”

The prompt in question comes with the “New Wares Enter Tejal’s Shop” title, and while players can close the button and move on, but they aren’t pleased by the concept itself. You can see the image below:

A comment by Reddit user Lovs2Spooj shares their views on the current addition to Diablo 4:

As a player who’s been spending countless hours in dungeons (looking for The Butcher), open world farming goblins n elites and world boss events for mounts and bardings, getting that prompt after the small update…thinking they did something useful…saying “Hey, we put more s**t in the shop” is like a slap in the face. Those drops must intentionally be set to like a .001% chance to strong arm you into buying from the store. The little exclamation point next to SHOP is pretty sleazy too. We didn’t miss anything in the shop. Obvious the priorities are for microtransactions.

While this seems harmless enough, some are not OK with Blizzard inserting ads into their $70 full-priced games. Do you think some people are overreacting or should Blizzard not do this at all?

I’m sorry but if you are still supporting Blizzard in 2023 you are part of the problem and only have yourself to blame when they do stuff like this. At this point they’ve made it clear that stuff like this is in their nature and this is the rule, not the exception.

But people never learn. Can’t wait for a month from now when they’re in the news again for doing some other shady nonsense and the gamers who bought their stuff can act surprised all over again.

I mean …. they confirmed MTXs before we even saw a single screenshot of the game. Why are people shocked? If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I don’t buy this garbage. I do not buy games with MTXs. Yes, it is possible.
