Diablo 4 Tab Map Overlay: Blizzard Has “No Plans at the Moment”

While the Diablo 4 beta has showcased improvements compared to previous entries in the series, one crucial feature that seems to be missing is Diablo 4’s tab map overlay function. Also known as the Automap, this tool allowed players to easily glance at an expanded view of the map while in combat and was a feature in Diablo 1, 2, and 3. Diablo 4, however, will apparently not include this feature, according to the game’s lead manager.

Rod Fergusson, General Manager of the Diablo franchise, recently confirmed that the tab map overlay feature is currently not in development, stating that the team has “no plans at the moment” to implement the said feature. The statement was made as a response to a user’s question regarding the Automap function.

Here’s the exchange that occurred via Twitter:

The tab map overlay is a fairly highly requested feature, as it is used to help players navigate through dungeons and areas around the map without having to press open the menu every few seconds. The game has currently gone gold, and seeing as Fergusson’s statement was made just a few days prior, it’s unlikely that we’ll be seeing it implemented at launch.

Diablo 4 launches this June 6 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with 4K resolution at 60 FPS available for the Xbox Series X.
