Dragon Quest X Online Version 7.0 Expansion Confirmed; Wii U and 3DS Versions Shutting Down

Dragon Quest X Online keeps going strong in Japan, as Square Enix announces the next chapter coming to this MMORPG. Version 7 has been confirmed via Twitter after initial rumors appearing last year, and it’s generating quite some buzz among fans. Titled “The Door to the Future and the Sleeping Girl” in English according to our translation skills, the Dragon Quest X Online Version 7.0 expansion is slated for a still vague 2024 release after the conclusion of the Version 6 storyline.

Obviously, this launch is going to be a Japan exclusive, as Dragon Quest X never managed to release in western territories, even with the considerable demand during its original 2012 launch. Despite claims from Square Enix that a western launch would happen if there was enough interest from fans, this never materialized and the only venture outside of Japan was in China, with a localized release in 2016 only to be shut down by 2019. In 2022, once again for Japan alone, an Unreal Engine 4-powered Dragon Quest X Offline version was released.

The odds of an English launch happening at all seem extremely slim right now.
