E3 2023 Is Officially Cancelled

e3 2023 cancelled

While we went on for years without an E3 event because of the pandemic, it seems we won’t be getting one this year as well. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has confirmed that it has cancelled E3 2023 — something we could have guessed a mile away.

Originally set to take place this June 13 until June 16, the event’s showing for this year was always in doubt given Microsoft, Sony and even Nintendo all confirmed they weren’t going to be part of it. Not only that, but big-name publishers like EA also opted to do their own thing, which is the same case for most companies these days.

The final nail(s( in the E3 2023 coffin was the sudden about-face of Ubisoft from attending, to hosting their own show. Following that, SEGA and Tencent also pulled out, which meant the event had no big name company that was attending.

According to IGN, two sources have confirmed of the event’s cancellation, with the ESA sending out emails to its members today. The email states that while the E3 “remains a beloved event and brand,” the 2023 show ” simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength, and impact of our industry.”

Will we see E3 resurface again for the 2024 show? I honestly can’t say. With Sony, Nintendo and even Microsoft delivering their own direct shows to announce their products, and how these said shows consume less time and budget, we might not see the big three attend another E3 for a very long time even if there is a show next year.

Do you think we’ll see another big E3 event next year or in the future? Or is this the end of E3 as we know it?
