While the Battlefield franchise is one of the most revered shooter brands in gaming history, even hardcore fans won’t deny that the series has lost some of its sheen with the last few franchise entries (namely: Battlefield V, Battlefield 2042).

In Electronic Arts’ (EA) Investor Day presentation, Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment and Technology, was asked how the publisher is thinking about the opportunity of the Battlefield franchise relative to the prior iterations, and how does the publisher balance the four development teams working on the game, longer lead times to make sure the quality is high and the timeliness of getting the game to the market.

I don’t think there’s ever been a better time to look at the potential of the Battlefield franchise right now. You heard from Byron today about the level of engagement that we have in the community. Interest and demand remains strong, and we have an incredibly strong leadership team — the strongest leadership team we’ve ever had — on the Battlefield franchise. We have four studios instead of one working on it. so we know we’re investing in all the right places, and the most interesting thing really is the market has evolved and changed, and the shooter category has, and players have an agency over their gameplay; players who want to engage in these massive scaled battles. We have vehicles, and when you think about that, where the market’s gone, and what the strengths of Battlefield really are, it’s like this perfect match. So we know that if we continue to invest in the opportunity, with the strong leadership team we have, the great brand we have, the core tenets and strengths of the game leaning into where the market is going, we know we have a significant opportunity on our hands to really realize the full potential of the Battlefield brand. – Laura Miele, President of EA Entertainment and Technology

(Editor’s Note: Yes, we realize Miele didn’t exactly answer the question with her answer, but it is, what it is).

Hopefully, that interest and demand — and more importantly, trust — is still there when the new Battlefield game hits retail. Otherwise, EA will face the rude awakening of having a multi-million selling franchise squander all the goodwill and loyalty the franchise earned throughout the decades in a span of two games.

The next Battlefield game still has no official title, but it’s expected to be released next year given community testing is set to kick off in “early 2025.”
