Embracer Thinking “Decades Ahead” With Lord of The Ring IP Says CEO

Just a few months ago, the Embracer Group announced that they have acquired Middle-earth Enterprises, which is the IP rights holder to The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit literary of works (not the movies). Understandably, given Embracer is a video game company, this means that we should see games based on the IP. Having said that, It seems the company has a lot planned for it, and is in it for the long haul.

Speaking in the latest issue of EDGE magazine (#377), Embracer CEO Lars Wingesfors mentions that for the license, they are thinking “decades ahead.”

We wouldn’t acquire the brand of Lord Of The Rings if we were just thinking to maximise that potential over the coming year. You need to think decades ahead. And that’s how we will continue to think about this.

While no formal game based on the IP has been announced just yet, it’s just a matter of time until the company announces one. I mean, it’s not like they lack the manpower to develop it and whatnot. What LOTR game do you want to see from Embracer? An action-RPG? Perhaps a strategy game? I wouldn’t bet against seeing games under different genres from the company given the number of gaming studios they have under their belt.
