Final Fantasy 7 Remake Mod Turns Cloud & Co. to Original 1997 Polygonal Versions

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Mod

If you’ve played Square Enix’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake and you’ve also played the original 1997 game back in the PS1 days, it’s hard not to be impressed by the graphical leap the game has undergone thanks to the developers. However, if you ever wanted to play the remake with the original graphics for Cloud, Aerith and everyone else, you’re in luck, as someone just crafted a Final Fantasy 7 Remake mod that does just that.

Mod maker FantasyRaiderr has released this “polygonal players” mod for Final Fantasy 7 Remake (for PC, obviously) that turns the characters into their 1997 counterparts. The mod maker has the following to say for people using this mod as well:

Drop file in ~Mods

Make sure you do not have any other Character Model Mods while using this mod or the game will crash or this mod wont show in game.

Because of the nature of this mod expect clipping. Also there will be cinematic scenes where the realistic models are still present as those are video files and not models.

Aside from the visual change, don’t expect any gameplay-related tweaks, since this just changes the characters’ appearances. Still, this is one nifty mod, and one that old school gamers will get a kick out of.

In other Final Fantasy news, Square Enix has confirmed that both Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI will be present at this year’s Tokyo Game Show! The event kicks off next week, and we’re expecting new gameplay and details to be revealed then.
