gears 5 multiplayer beta

While the Gears of War franchise is mostly known for offering a compelling, cover-based campaign, the franchise’s multiplayer isn’t anything to scoff at, either. Well, as is with almost every game that has a multiplayer component these days, a Gears 5 multiplayer beta is set to launch very, very soon. How soon? Try July 17.

According to Microsoft, the Gears 5 multiplayer beta (or otherwise known as the “technical test”) will be downloadable starting July 17, with the servers activated from July 19 (at 10 a.m. PDT) through July 22 (10 a.m. PDT). It’ll go down for a few days, and go back up on July 26 (10 a.m. PDT), and end on July 29 (10 a.m. PDT).

If you want to test it for yourself, you either got to have Gears 5 pre-ordered already, or be a member of the Xbox Game Pass. And yes, playing in the multiplayer beta will require an active Xbox Live Gold membership.

The modes available will be:

  • Escalation  (The Coalition’s updated competitive gametype)
  • Arcade (a new and approachable multiplayer gametype)
  • King of the Hill

Bootcamp will also be available for players who who want to practice their skills and learn the new mechanics the studio is adding to the franchise.

The Coalition will also feature the Tour of Duty in the Gears 5 multiplayer beta, and completing these challenges will unlock an exclusive Tech Test Banner, as well as three Versus Weapon Skins by completing additional challenges.

For those playing on PC, the minimum and recommended specs are listed below.

There doesn’t seem to be any NDA (non-disclosure agreement) mentioned, so players will be able to record and upload footage of it as they wish.

Gears 5 will chainsaw its way out this September 10 on the Xbox One, and PC.
