Starfield was finally released last year after a decade of development. It is the developers’ first single-player title in eight years. While the fans had massive expectations from the team, the game couldn’t live up to them in certain areas.
One of them was the gore and dismemberment in Starfield, as many fans compared the title with other releases from the developers, like Fallout, saying it could offer a similar experience. However, one of the developers who worked on both titles from Bethesda has finally provided an explanation.
He stated that the developers had indeed planned to include gore and dismemberment in the title but had to remove it due to technical limitations.
Former Bethesda Dev Explained Why Gore And Dismemberment Were Removed from Starfield

During a recent interview with Kiwi Talks, Dennis Mejillones, a former developer from Bethesda who was a character artist on The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Starfield, stated that the team did plan to include all those features that fans were looking for in the game. However, due to technical limitations, Bethesda ended up cutting those features from the game.
There were a lot of implications with the different suits from a technical perspective. There’s a lot that has to go with it. You have to cut the helmet in a certain way and it’s got to come off, you have meat caps to the bottom where the flesh is.
The former developer stated that the team had created a system for everything, but it turned out to be a “big rat’s nest.” Thus, they ended up cutting it to offer a distinctive experience to the fans.
He further stated that gore and dismemberment made more sense in Fallout, therefore, Bethesda decided to remove them from their latest release, Starfield.
In other Starfield news, Bethesda wants Starfield to live as long as Skyrim. The team plans to continue supporting the game for a long time, with Tim Lamb, Creative Producer at Bethesda, stating that “we’re always working on something.”
