GTA 5 and GTA Online Player Engagement Jumps Up Double Digits in Percentages Compared to Last Year
While Grand Theft Auto 5 and its multiplayer component, GTA Online, were released back in 2013, it seems players still can’t get enough of Rockstar’s open-world game. As a matter of fact, both games even saw an increase in player engagement compared to last year.
Speaking during Take-Two Interactive’s latest earnings call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed, “Grand Theft Auto 5 continues to perform so well, we’ve now sold in over 200 million units. Every quarter we continue to be pleased with the sales of the full game. And engagement in the past fiscal year with Grand Theft Auto 5 is up 35% and Grand Theft Auto Online is up by 23%, I believe. That’s extraordinary growth at this stage of the game more than 10 years after the initial release.”
This is extraordinary, indeed! This proves how strong the Grand Theft Auto brand is that even after 10 years, the game still continues to sell well. Multiplayer games come and go, but GTA Online is still alive and well, which in itself is a major accomplishment. Of course, if you read MP1st regularly, you’ll know we cover GTA Online every week and whenever there are any important events and announcements for it.
Take-Two also revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in Fall 2025, and you can bet that it’ll sell a ton once again. Expect game releases to change to avoid being trampled in GTA 6’s wake, and fully expect loads of publications (including MP1st) to cover GTA 6 extensively gnawing at every bit of news.
Are you surprised at GTA 5 and GTA Online’s staying power or it’s understandable given the game is just that good?
