Halo 5: Guardians DLC Roadmap Includes Firefight & Halo: Reach-Inspired Content

Halo 5: Guardians’ latest content update, Hammer Forge, launched only a few hours ago, but already developer 343 Industries is laying out the game’s content roadmap for the rest of 2016.

According to the studio’s plan, today’s launch marks the half way point for Halo 5: Guardians’ spring/summer content calendar of updates. That means fans have four more packs to look forward to in 2016, all for free. In an update on Xbox’s official news site, 343 Community Manager Andy “Bravo” Dudynsky teased what’s ahead with the image you see above. Here it is listed out:

Coming 2016:

  • Ghosts of Meridian
  • Memories of Reach
  • Hog Wild
  • Warzone Firefight

If we’re allowed to speculate for a moment, we’re not quite sure what “Ghosts of Meridian” might entail, but we think it’s safe to say that “Memories of Reach” will get Halo: Reach fans hyped up with armor skins and weapon models from Bungie’s last-ever Halo title. Meanwhile, “Hog Wild” seems to suggest something along the lines of Warthog racing or battle-car-style game modes.

“Warzone Firefight” is quite clearly the one to look out for if you are a fan of Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach’s co-operative Firefight mode. It sounds like it’s coming to Halo 5: Guardians with a bit of a Warzone twist, REQs ‘n’ all). Here’s what the studio had to say about it:

“Among the vast array of new modes coming to Halo over the next several months is one that our fans have repeatedly asked us to deliver – Firefight. The new mode, called “Warzone Firefight”, will bring PvE to Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer and let players battle together against common foes (and truly show off their custom Spartans to boot!) That’s all we’ll say for now, but trust us, we can’t wait to tell you more about Warzone Firefight in the coming months.”

You can catch a small glimpse of new mode in the teaser at the end of Hammer Storm’s recent launch trailer. It starts at about 1:10 and shows five Spartans taking on Covenant and Promethean foes.

So far, 343 and Microsoft have shown and impressive level of post-launch support for Halo 5: Guardians and its nice to see it continue into 2016, especially with nods to classic Halo titles and fan-favorite game modes like Firefight.

What’s your perspective on Halo 5: Guardians after launch? Is it panning out the way you expected?
