Just a few days ago, 343 Industries announced that development on local co-op for Halo Infinite has been canned. For those who do want to play the campaign with a friend offline, it is possible thanks to a bug! Members of the community have managed to unearth a Halo Infinite splitscreen co-op glitch that surprisingly works well.
Speaking to MP1st, @HaloCreation has said that they have been doing stuff with the @HaloDotAPI for the past few years, which led to this bug being unearthed. A while back, the API’s founder @Zeny_IC spotted a menu glitch that lets gamers play Halo Infinite splitscreen co-op! Long story short: this glitch will let you trick the Xbox version of the game into loading your campaign save by using the multiplayer local co-op.

According to @HaloCreation, after testing this Halo Infinite local co-op glitch on Xbox Series X, what they found was there are no crash in cutscenes, no issues with AI. Again, this is an unofficial way to play the campaign, so don’t be surprised to see crashes, issues and more. Furthermore, they said that this is not a new glitch, which is why @HaloCreation was shocked to hear that 343 was cancelling splitscreen co-op, and even tweeted Joseph Staten (Head of Creative at Halo) before posting the video clip.
@HaloCreation adds that local co-op for Halo means a lot because they still use it (on Halo MCC) with friends and relatives. In addition to that, this feature is very useful for other “niche” things into which the Halo community is involved in, such as tricking or taking videos/references of the campaign (given Theater Mode does not work for the campaign).
What’s interesting here is, it seems it is functional on consoles, yet 343 decided against finishing development of it, which begs the question: why?
