Ninja Theory has announced that Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is digital only, though it’ll feature a lower price stage compared to other AAA titles.

With Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 release date finally announced (with some new gameplay, too!), Ninja Theory has shared even more details via a blog post, confirming that Hellblade 2 is digital only. That’s probably not the news physical collectors wanted to hear for what may be one of Xbox’s biggest titles, but the good news is that it won’t be a fully priced, $70 title.

Dom Matthews, Studio Head at Ninja Theory, explains why they are doing digital only.

“This might sound like a lofty mission, but it is something we are proud to have achieved before in Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – a game built in a space we called ‘Independent AAA’, where we worked with the creative spirit and freedom of independent development but strove for the types of high-end production values often only associated with AAA games. We also took advantage of the freedom that digital-only distribution offered us to create a game of the length that fit perfectly with our intended experience but could be sold at a lower price to reflect the shorter length of our story. This framework allowed us to focus on the things we really care about – taking our fans on an unforgettable journey into Senua’s unique world. “

He also confirmed that the campaign length of Hellblade 2 should be expected to be roughly the same as the first game, which was between 7-10 hours in length.

Senua’s Saga Hellblade 2 will launch on May 21 for Xbox Series X|S and PC. It will also be available as a day-one Game Pass title for subscribers.
