Ninja Theory’s upcoming title, Hellblade 2, is shaping up to be one of the most visually pleasing games of all time. In a new tweet, the developer has shared how they are using a technique for Hellblade 2 to replicate Anamorphic cinema, which is found only in films.
Anamorphic cinema lenses give films a painterly, dreamlike look. So how can we recreate the same look in a Senua's Saga: Hellblade II? pic.twitter.com/6HdF6tReyK

In the video, the developer explained how this technique of replicating Anamorphic cinema in a game engine helps Hellblade 2 achieve its goal of an “immersive, cinematic experience.” Ninja Theory goes in-depth to explain that by mixing distortion, chromatic aberration, spherical aberration, and bokeh effects to replicate an Anamorphic cinema look.
They also use multiple movies to help visualize what they want to achieve, including The Batman, Blade Runner, and Moonlight. You can check out the official Hellblade 2 gameplay trailer revealed at The Game Awards last year, where it was probably the most visually terrific out of all the titles. Hopefully, it isn’t long before we get to see more of this highly anticipated title.
