The latest patch for Arrowhead’s popular shooter launched this morning and brought various tweaks and fixes to the game. It seems that wasn’t all the update added, however— Helldivers 2 players have begun to notice massive gunships hiding amongst the stars over Automaton forces.

These gunships are initially invisible to the naked eye. However, some sharp players have found that when looking up at the celestial bodies scattered across the night sky, it’s possible to see them cloaked against the stark contrast of other planets and moons:

The devs over at Arrowhead love adding significant game content in under the radar. Just a few weeks ago, flying bugs began appearing on Terminid planets with absolutely zero mention of their addition in patch notes. Colossal AT-AT-esque walking Automatons have also made appearances in today’s update, once again, without any warning from the team.
It’s possible that these ships could be yet another reference to the third alien race in Helldivers lore, the Illuminate. This technologically advanced alien civilization has been hinted at for a while now, and each update seems to bring their arrival to Super Earth closer. It’s likely only a matter of time before the super soldiers have a new front to deploy to in an effort to protect liberty and spread democracy.
