At today’s State of Play stream, not only did we get our first look at Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, but Hideo Kojima even took the floor to confirm that he is working on a new IP and it will feature “next-generation action espionage.”

Unfortunately, it seems to be quite far off, as Kojima also confirmed that preparations are underway, and production will begin at Kojima Productions after Death Stranding 2. Kojima also comments on his relationship with Sony, and how the legendary game maker and the electronics giant has partnered for almost 30 years on the action espionage genre alluding to the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

In addition to that, Kojima also commented on how Sony not only does games, but also music and movies — mediums which the director has been publicly passionate about. While nothing has been set in terms of a release date given its very early in development, Kojima states that in two years’ time, it will be his 40th anniversary in the video game industry, and he is confident that this title will be the culmination of his work.

When pressed for more info by Herman Hulst, Head of PlayStation Studios, Kojima mentions it will bring cutting-edge technology and talent from around to world to develop it, and it will be an interactive game but will also be a movie at the same time (something, Kojima fans should be very familiar with).

In terms of look, story, theme, cast, and more, Kojima hopes to transcend the barriers between films and video games — again, something the game maker is known for in his past projects.

Over on Twitter/X, the official Kojima Productions account tweeted an image with the Columbia Pictures sign along with “PHYSINT.” which could very well be a hint or something about the in-development action-espionage game.

Given how revered Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid games were, I am certain that I’m not the only one excited to see this project take shape. Once we know more, we’ll be sure to let our readers know about the details.
