It seems that Warner Bros. is going all in with the Harry Potter franchise, as a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy in now in production with major story elements even planned to play out in the new upcoming HBO series currently in production.

As confirmed by Variety, Hogwarts Legacy 2 (not the official name) is now in production! This was revealed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment’s President David Haddad, who spoke with the outlet, stating that with the first game’s success, the time is now right for a major potter push.

” …the success of “Hogwarts Legacy” helped stoke confidence that the time was right to make a major Potter push: “The rest of the company was very curious about what we helped to unlock with ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ last year.”

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Will Share Some Storylines With the Upcoming New TV Series

He goes on to confirm that the teams working on the game and the planned new HBO series are coordinating some of the “big-picture storytelling elements” together that will be featured in both the game and the show. While he doesn’t expound much beyond that, we can only assume this will be along the lines of events that will play in both, though not directly tied to one another when it comes to characters and such.

The new HBO series, which is being pegged as a reboot for the series that is more closely based on the books rather than a new original idea, is currently scheduled to release in 2025. Not much else is known about the series, and given that this is a reboot, you shouldn’t expect to see any returning actors from the films coming back to reprise any roles.

It will be interesting to see how the game ties into the new series, seeing that the first game takes place decades before the books start. Unless there’s some sort of time jump that will see thew sequel take place at the same time as the series, we’d wager that whatever happens in Legacy 2 will likely be referenced in the show, and directly push the narrative in a different way as to try and leave them as seperate, but connected properties.

It should come as no surprise that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is happening, considering the monster of sales it did back in 2023. It would be a mistake for Warner Bros. to not want to follow up on it, though let us hope that it maintains the same magic as the first game.

If you’ve yet to play the wizarding game, go check out my review where it scored a perfect 10/10 score, and notes how the game will make you feel like a kid again.

Now that we know that a sequel is finally happening, where would you like to see the franchise go?
