Hogwarts Legacy 2 Planned for No Earlier Than 2027, With More Major Warner Bros Games Releasing the Same Year
Warner Bros Discovery went through major changes after its purchase by Netflix in December. The impact has been felt more in its video game division than in its film studios.
Warner’s strategy in gaming is now focused on making the most of its biggest franchises: Batman and other DC characters, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and Mortal Kombat. Other projects will take a secondary role.
Warner Bros Targets 2027–2028 for Hogwarts Legacy 2
In 2026, the company will release titles such as LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Game of Thrones: Dragonfire, a mobile strategy game. However, its most important projects are scheduled for 2027 and 2028.
Executives David Zaslav and JB Perrette explained the future roadmap of the gaming division in an interview with Variety, shedding more light on the situation. When will Hogwarts Legacy 2 arrive?
According to Warner’s executives, the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy will take advantage of the upcoming Harry Potter series on HBO Max to shine even more in 2027 — at the earliest.
“The real fruits will start coming in in ’27-’28 when we return to some of our biggest franchises,” JB Perrette said. He didn’t specify any titles but it’s likely he was referencing the push for the studio to release a Hogwarts Legacy.
2025 was a reset year for Warner Bros Games, while 2026 will serve as a transition period to strengthen major projects. This means there will not be many big launches or major announcements this year, but things should become more exciting starting in 2027.
They also admitted that the company previously had too many development studios and was distracted by handling too many intellectual properties.
Alongside Hogwarts Legacy 2, new installments of Injustice, Mortal Kombat, or even another Batman: Arkham game cannot be ruled out.
Warner Bros Games is one of several major publishers currently facing difficulties, similar to companies like Electronic Arts and Ubisoft. However, the company hopes to recover starting next year by focusing on its strongest franchises.
