Indie publisher Versus Evil is closing its doors for good today after 10 years of operation. The news was dropped by Versus Evil themselves this morning and marks the latest in this year’s tsunami of layoffs and shutdowns.
Versus Evil announced their closure via tweet:
Today is a sad day. After 10 wonderful years, Versus Evil is shutting its doors. We've loved bringing you the best indie games we could find & sharing so many happy memories with you all, our amazing community! From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU for everything! ♥️

Versus Evil was responsible for publishing all sorts of indies since their genesis in the early 2010s. Their roster included games like The Banner Saga, Armikrog, Pillars of Eternity II, and the upcoming Broken Roads.
Several former employees of Versus Evil also took to Twitter/X to express their disappointment:
Welp. That was a fun 10 year ride. The entire Versus Evil team has just been laid off.

After being at Versus Evil for almost 3 years as a Community Manager – the company has been closed with all staff laid off.
Effectively immediately I am looking for a new Community Manager role. Any assistance with this is extremely appreciated.

It’s really tragic that people in the games industry are still losing their jobs this close to the end of the year, especially during the holidays. It’s been a crazy year for games as a whole, both on the upside and the downside. It’s clear that something needs to change in terms of video game employment.
We’ll make sure to keep readers posted as we hear any further updates.
