Kojima Productions Will Only Work on Own IPs, Hideo Kojima Confirms

Kojima Productions

Kojima Productions just recently turned seven years old, and while they’ve only released one game thus far in Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima has big plans for the studio, all of which will involve their own IPs.

An interview revealed that Hideo Kojima isn’t planning on working with other licensed IPs, with Kojima Productions focusing solely on its own works. He also mentions that thanks to the studio being privately owned, he gets to focus on making good games before company growth.

Kojima Production isn’t publicly traded, so I don’t have some goal of steadily growing the company. I just want to leave behind good work, and that’s the stance I’m taking while making games, while also considering making other kinds of visual projects. We’re going to maintain the stance of making our own IP and not working on IP licensed from others.

Kojima also mentions that he does plan on growing his studio in the future, and even mentions that he may not require applicants to speak Japanese.

I don’t want to add too many people, but I do of course intend on making that happen. The overwhelming majority of applicants we get are from overseas, and many of them are talented individuals, but ultimately there are lot of issues if they’re not able to work with us here in Shinagawa and speak Japanese. That’s why when we launched the studio I limited applications to people who could speak Japanese. I’m thinking it’s about time to get rid of that condition, though.

Even if Kojima Productions won’t be working on outside IPs anytime soon, it looks like the studio will have its hands full for the time being. Between Death Stranding 2, the upcoming cloud-based game with Xbox, and the Death Stranding movie, Kojima and his studio have a lot to work on.
