In studio acquisitions news, PUBG publisher KRAFTON has announced their acquisition of Unknown Worlds, the developers behind Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. In total, KRAFTON now has six studios under their banner: PUBG Studios, Striking Distance Studios, Bluehole Studio, RisingWings, Dreamotion, and Unknown Worlds.

Speaking of the partnership, KRAFTON CEO CH Kim had this to say:

“Unknown Worlds are incredibly skilled and passionate developers with an unparalleled gift for creativity and a proven track record of building successful player-driven worlds. KRAFTON will spare no effort in helping them. Not only do they enhance our development capabilities, but we share a goal of creating unique experiences for global audiences.”

As part of the acquisition, Unknown Worlds will continue to operate “as an independent game development studio wholly owned by KRAFTON and will continue to operate globally with talent seated throughout the world.” The studio will also continue to operate under its structure and leadership, with Unknown Worlds working currently on a new game slated for early access release in 2022.
