Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: Developers Reveal New Look and Details About Venom

In a new interview, Insomniac Games’ Creative Director Bryan Intihar talks about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s Venom and other plot details. During the interview, the developers also revealed a new in-game screenshot of the classic Spider-Man villain.

Intihar reveals that casting a voice actor for Venom was one of the things he was avoiding, as people would have “a lot of opinions on it.”

Intihar: “(Casting Venom was) one of the things I was avoiding for as long as possible because I was so scared of who we were going to get to do the voice. We knew it would be so anticipated and people would have a lot of opinions on it.”

That was his opinion at least until the team sat down with Tony Todd who’s famously known for portraying the horror icon, Candyman. After hearing a few lines of Todd’s voice in the Candyman trailer, Intihar knew he would be the perfect candidate for Venom in Spider-Man 2.

Intihar: “”Everything we talked about [with] Venom — that sense of strength, that sense of fear, that sense of overwhelming, so different from Peter — Tony embraces that completely in the performance.”

After revealing the new in-game look at Venom, Art Director Jacinda Chew says:

“It’s really interesting when you start thinking about what makes him different than Spider-Man. The symbiote is often known as an allegory for the darkness that the host is fighting against. So what makes him an anti-Spider-Man?”

You can find the full interview with the Spider-Man 2 team notably Jacinda Chew, Jon Paquette, and Bryan Intihar with Entertainment Weekly below. The team goes into detail about how the first game leads directly to the sequel and builds more on how the symbiote affects not only Peter but the people around him as well.

Intihar: “We wanted to try something very different, and I don’t think you can get much more different from Doc Ock than you do Venom. It’s about power, it’s about strength, it’s about being slighted, it’s about Peter being involved much more in the creation of Venom. I think that’s what attracted us.”

More information about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will drop during SDCC 2023 today. The panel includes Bryan Intihar, Jon Paquette, Jacinda Chew along with Tony Todd himself as well as Game Director Ryan Smith. We will let our readers know as soon as more information swings out.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for an October 20 release for the PS5.
