Mac Walters, who headed the writing of sci-fi games Mass Effect 2 and 3, has left BioWare after 19 years of being in the company. The news broke out via Walter’s official LinkedIn profile, where he expressed the difficulty in making such a decision.

Here’s the full message:

With a new year comes new adventures.

As some of you already know, at the end of last year I decided to leave BioWare. These past 19 years have been a life-changing experience to say the least, and it made the choice to go very difficult. I’ve worked with so many wonderful people and had the privilege to be a part of the most amazing teams and projects. It’s hard to fathom it all, and I know I’ll be reflecting on it for years to come.

Thank you to everyone I’ve had the joy of working with, and I wish everyone at BioWare the very best in everything you do. It’s truly been a pleasure.

Walter notes that the decision was “very difficult,” though it seems like he left the game studio on good terms based on how fondly he mentions his time at BioWare. While Walter is known for his writing contributions in Mass Effect 2 and 3, he also served as the production director for the upcoming RPG Dragon Age: Dreadwolf.

Based on the LinkedIn post, he left the company at the end of last year, so we’re unsure how this affects Dreadwolf’s development. The game already entered Alpha stage in October, however, with an in-game cinematic trailer showcasing a little of what’s to come, so development’s likely already well underway.
