Meta Quest 2 Headset Gets a $100 Price Increase After Being on the Market for Two Years

Meta Quest $100 increase

Meta Quest has officially announced that their Meta Quest 2 headsets will see a $100 price increase. To downplay the price hike, Meta is going to include Beat Saber, one of the most popular games on Quest, with the headset. Meta Quest 2 now costs $399.99 (128GB) and $499.99 (256GB), which previously costed $299.99 and $399.99 respectively.

The price hike will be effective from August 1, 2022, and players who purchase the headset from August 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 and activate the device using an account that doesn’t already have Bear Saber enabled, will be able to download Beat Saber at no additional cost.

Meta explains the price hike in a blog post.

We have an ambitious VR hardware roadmap, beginning with the launch of our high-end headset, Project Cambria, later this year. And we plan to ship new generations of Meta Quest after that. At Reality Labs Research, we have teams dedicated to advancing the state of the art in VR displays, audio, incredibly lifelike avatars, haptics, wrist-based interfaces, and more. And on the content front, we have a robust lineup of exciting titles coming to Meta Quest 2, including Ghostbusters VR, Among Us VR, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution, BONELAB, and NFL PRO ERA—VR’s first officially-licensed NFL game.

The company claims that it will still be the most affordable VR headset after the price hike.

Even with these pricing changes, Meta Quest 2 continues to be the most affordable VR headset with a comparable feature set on the market. And each headset keeps getting better after you buy. From hand tracking improvements and Air Link to Meta Horizon Home, we’re constantly adding new features to make VR more social, intuitive, and immersive than ever before.

Fans aren’t thrilled about the price hike, and they believe including a $30 game (Saber Quest) doesn’t make up for the $100 price hike. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments below.
