Metroid Dread Sells Over 86,000 Physical Units Since Launch in Japan

Metroid Dread

Samus Aran’s newest adventure just made big money for Nintendo, as Metroid Dread sells over 86,000 physical units since launch in Japan — making it the best-selling Metroid game at launch in history and setting a new record for the franchise as whole.

According to Famitsu’s weekly report, the new Metroid sold a total of 86, 798 in its first week of release — taking the top spot and beating the PS4 and PS5 releases of Far Cry 6. Both versions of Ubisoft’s latest first-person shooter adventure sold a combined total of 50,905, with the Nintendo action adventure game outperforming it by a large margin.

As the newest spin-off of the long running Metroid franchise, Metroid Dread brings back the traditional 2D side-scrolling game while also incorporating stealth elements. Here’s the overview of the plot from the official Nintendo page of the game.

Upon investigating a mysterious transmission on Planet ZDR, Samus faces a mysterious foe that traps her in this dangerous world. The remote planet has been overrun by vicious alien lifeforms and murderous robots called E.M.M.I. Hunt or be hunted as you make your way through a labyrinth of enemies in Samus’ most intense side-scrolling adventure yet.
