Microsoft Gives Vague Update on Delayed Black Myth Wukong Xbox Release
While Black Myth Wukong is set to launch this August for PS5 and PC, the Xbox version is notably absent. According to Game Science, it’s due to the studio needing more time to optimize the Black Myth Wukong to meet the studio’s standards, which is perfectly fine.
However, Microsoft was recently asked about the delay, and the company’s answer is a bit vague, and even (sort of) implies that Sony could have had a hand in in it even.
Windows Central asked Microsoft on the Black Myth Wukong Xbox version delay, and here’s what the spokesperson said:
“We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the center of that.”
Reading between the lines, the comment sort of implies that Game Science struck a deal with Sony for timed console exclusivity of the title, which really shouldn’t surprise anyone. However, when Sony does do these marketing deals, it’s usually something they confirm in some capacity. As far as we’re aware, Sony nor Game Science have said anything about timed exclusivity for Black Myth Wukong.
That said, Game Science is a new indie studio, and it’s not uncommon for them to take up marketing deals since that offsets some of the development and marketing costs.
We’ve reached out to Sony for a comment on this and will update the story if we hear anything back.
Black Myth Wukong releases this August 20 on the PS5 and PC.
