In case you didn’t know, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has kicked off a “reset” earlier this year that translated to realignment of projects, layoffs and studio closures.

Thankfully, instead of just shutting down some of Microsoft’s first-party studios, Sharma is letting these development outfits buy themselves out, or shop them out to would-be buyers.

One of the studios on the shopping block is Arkane, most popularly known as the company behind the Dishonored franchise.

Now, word has gotten out that there are multiple companies interested in Arkane, and one of ’em is Ubisoft.

Arkane Studios Is Sought After by Multiple Buyers

In a new report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, people who asked not to be identified because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly on what’s happening have divulged that multiple companies have made offers to Microsoft to acquire Arkane Studios.

One of the interested parties is Ubisoft, the home of Tom Clancy games and the Assassin’s Creed franchise. There are at least two other gaming companies who have made bids, but they weren’t named.

Terms of the offers from Ubisoft and the other companies weren’t shared, though Xbox is said to not have come to an agreement with any potential buyer just yet. If the buyout pushes through, this would allow Arkane to complete its work on Marvel’s Blade, which was announced back in 2023, and is expected to be released in the next 24 months.

In addition to the three companies that are eyeing Arkane, Microsoft is also said to be considering sellig the studio to its management,

As of press time, an Xbox representative said the company is exploring options ahead of a December deadline and has declined to comment on the rumor directly.

Do note that this is unofficial, so don’t look at this as Ubisoft buying Arkane, all right?

While Arkane has relased some memorable games such as the Dishonored titles, Deathloop and more, the studio’s last release, Redfall in 2023, remains one of the most critically-panned Xbox exclusives. It was so bad at launc that it became the topic of memes. Plans to update the game until it becomes a “good” game was initially planned by Bethesda, but was scrapped. Since then, Arkane has not released a proper boxed game, and we’re all hoping Blade would be the studio’s return to glory.
