Elden Ring Update 1.013.003

With FromSoftware launching Elden Ring’s first and only DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree later today, some might be wondering what the future holds for the studio. While nothing has been announced yet, whatever FromSoftware’s next project is, it will surely be a big deal to a lot of gamers given the success and impact Elden Ring managed to achieve since its release.

With Elden Ring being fully open-world, is this something we can expect for future FromSoftware titles? This is something Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki refused to confirm though did mention it’s more of the “freedom” it gives players that help balance the difficulty curve most FromSoftware games are known for. Speaking of which, Miyazaki did hint that the combination of freedom and difficulty is a “big hint” of whatever the studio does next.

“Traditionally, we’ve always liked the higher-difficulty curve type of games and experiences. But I think that nature in and of itself alienates a portion of the game-playing audience, whereas Elden Ring succeeded in casting a wider net but at the same time keeping that core high learning curve.”

“I’m not saying an open world game or experience is necessarily the answer, but I think it’s the degree of freedom and the amount of freedom that we give players that helps balance or offset that difficulty curve and makes the game more accessible and engaging for a certain player demographic”

“So I think that combination between freedom and difficulty will become a big hint in whatever it is we do next.”

Whatever the studio does, it’ll be a big deal for sure. Of course, Elden Ring is a very tough act to follow, but if anyone can do it, it’s FromSoftware. I mean, just look at Shadow of the Erdtree’s critical score average! It’s now sitting at 95, and is the best-reviewed DLC of all-time!

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree officially launches in a few hours. In case you didn’t know, FromSoftware released a major patch alongside it that includes new features for the base game.
