Modern Warfare 3 Reveal Has Hidden Phone Number Easter Egg, Slide Cancelling Confirmed to Be Back

Earlier today, Activision formally announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 with a reveal teaser. While this short video doesn’t include any gameplay, it does have a phone number Easter egg that people can message.

The number that flashes during the opening’s green hue is: +12029183022. Obviously, this is a US phone number, and if you’re going to message it, please check with your mobile service provider for charges and whatnot. If you don’t want to message the number, you can just see the text message screenshots below (via IPlayCOD) to see what happens.

The map image shown is from Warzone’s Al Mazrah map, where the Dome area is featured. This points to what I assume is the place in Warzone’s in-game event where Modern Warfare 3 will be revealed (which is rumored to be Aug. 17).

In addition to that, Activision has confirmed that slide-cancelling is also in MW3! Select Call of Duty content creators were sent a package and a text. The message states, “You’ll be expected to move quickly in Al Mazrah.” This message was accompanied by a pair of slides, a can and a cell phone. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the items spell: “Slide, Can, Cell” or slide-cancel.”

Those not familiar with slide-cancelling, this was used to great effect in Modern Warfare 2019, as given the game’s slower movement speed, slide-cancelling allowed players to move much faster, and using your character’s slide animation to basically reset your tac sprint, gain momentum and just move at a faster pace than those who weren’t familiar with it. This accidental feature was taken out in Modern Warfare 2, but it seems to be coming back in MW3, which means developer Sledgehammer is OK with it.

Slide cancelling is a hot topic among the Call of Duty community, as some think it helps make the game faster, while others feel this should be removed completely.

We’re expect more Modern Warfare 3 teases, news and whatnot to surface in the coming days and weeks leading up to the reveal and eventual gameplay blowout.

Are you happy that slide-cancelling will be back in Modern Warfare 3? Or should Sledgehammer just stick to traditional movement but at a faster pace?
