Modern Warfare 3 to Receive Not 20, But 22 Drops of DLC

What was originally promised to be 20 Elite drops of content over 9 months is now 22. When Call of Duty Elite was officially announced, the team behind Modern Warfare 3 committed to release 20 content drops over the game’s supposed life cycle until the next Call of Duty release, which is rumored to be Black Ops 2.

Last month, Beachhead studios beefed up Call of Duty Elite by adding one more piece of DLC to the initial 20 pieces coming to Modern Warfare 3. Now, thanks to a tipster, we discovered that another piece of content was added to the content calendar. The scheduled DLC content for the month of May for Xbox 360 now features four drops, one map, one mission, and two classified pieces of DLC. PS3 owners can expect these for drops in June, as a PS3 section has also been added to the calendar that outlines the same drops a month ahead. The classified drops used to be labeled “modes.”

The following schedule is for Call of Duty Elite for Xbox 360. (Add one month for PS3 releases)

  • January: Pizza and Liberation
  • February: Overwatch
  • March: Black Box (Map), Black Ice (Mission), and Negotiator (Mission)
  • April: 2 Maps
  • May: 1 Map, 1 Mission, 2 Classified
  • June: 1 Map, 1 Mission, 1 Classified
  • July: 2 Maps
  • August: 1 Map, 1 Mission, 1 Classified
  • September: 1 Map, 1 Mission

Non-Elite Xbox 360 owners can expect the first content collection on March 20th. PS3 owners will receive the collection in April. (Safe to assume that PC will be able to buy the first collection in April also.)

As for the classified drops, new modes might be one of the types of DLC to come. Robert Bowling did comment on the possibility of classic Call of Duty maps to release for Modern Warfare 3, but he believes that these will be free and outside the DLC model. Also, he didn’t rule out gun DLC, which could be among the classified content.

Thanks to Gav for the tip!
