Naughty Dog Opens Up Hiring Position for Multiplayer Economy Designer

Naughty Dog

Looks like the folks behind The Last of Us and Uncharted are opening up a new position for their multiplayer division, as Naughty Dog is hiring anyone with experience for a Economy Designer position as listed on their official website.

Accompanying the job listing is an archived video of Game Design at Naughty Dog with workers describing how they do the job in the company.

Here’s the requirements for the economy designer position:

SUMMARY:

We’re looking for a passionate multiplayer economy designer who can help us create avenues for self-expression for our players, ensure robust longevity to our games, and give our players great rewards to strive for.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, and tune game economy and player progression systems

  • Collaborate with other game designers to ensure economy systems synergize well with the game as a whole

  • Collaborate extensively with other departments, especially Programming, Character, and UI to drive production on code and art assets necessary to the player economy

  • Collaborate extensively with Live Ops team to optimize economy and respond to player needs

  • Develop data analytics for player behavior, and the strategy to respond to those results

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed

As this position emphasized robust longevity — the speculation is that this may be in relation to The Last of Us Part 2. While the sequel to the 2013 Survival Horror hit has no online content, Naughty Dog could be prepping up something similar to the Factions multiplayer game that accompanied the first game. Time will tell and we’ll just have to see how it plays out. However, we also covered a massive TLOU2 leak that also suggested a multiplayer mode for the game is coming. This could be it.

Earlier this month, Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann teased that cool things and more announcements would be coming soon.
