NBA 2K18 Review Score Pulled Due to Pressure from 2K Games (Update)

Update:

TheSixthAxis has now posted an update and said that it will reinstate the 3/10 score given 2K has not communicated to them after 24 hours. Additionally, it emphasizes that no blackmailing or pressuring has been made by 2K at all.

Original Story:

With NBA 2K18‘s questionable implementation of microtransactions causing concern amongst veteran players, many were curious about how they would affect review scores. Just how big of a factor are premium currencies?

Well, according to TheSixthAxis, the presence of microtransactions was enough to lower the game’s score to 3/10.

This is where things start to get a little messy.

Shortly after posting the review, TheSixthAxis removed the 3/10 score due to pressure from 2K Games:

Update: In discussion with 2K Games, we’ve temporarily removed the score pending a statement with regard to our criticisms, at which point it will be reinstated. Additionally, a draft conclusion was posted that incorrectly characterised our score as a protest vote, and has been reworded to reflect that our criticisms are rooted in the effect that VC and microtransactions have on the gameplay.

It’s kind of worrying to see 2K Games pounce on reviewers like this.
