NetEase Games is expanding by forming a brand-new studio, Fantastic Pixel Castle, which is developing a new AAA MMO project set in a fantasy world, codenamed “Ghost.”

The new studio and project will be led by award-winning developer Greg Street, who previously served as lead designer on World of Warcraft and executive producer on League of Legends. While details are light on Ghost, Street had this to share about it, and the studio.

“With Fantastic Pixel Castle and Ghost, we want to demonstrate our commitment to open communication and development in front of players,” said Greg Street, studio head of Fantastic Pixel Castle. “MMOs are arguably one of the most challenging genres of games to make, but we have some big advantages. We are a fully remote studio, allowing us to hire the best game developers, and we plan to stay small, so that we can iterate on our design quickly. We also want to show the game early and often to the community and make sure we are on the right track to incorporate constant feedback. This is possible because NetEase Games is a strategic partner that understands our vision, and gives us the creative autonomy, resources and support to be successful.”

NetEase Games’ president of global investments stated that Fantastic Pixel Castle has their full support, with the team bringing on board some of the best MMO talent out that have had experience with some of the biggest titles, including Guild Wars 2, Fortnite, Overwatch, and many others.

Fantastic Pixel Castle will host a community stream next week (Nov. 8 at 2pm ET) on Twitch for those seeking more answers about Ghost and the studio.
