Nintendo Indie World Showcase Recap: Blasphemous 2, FNAF: Security Breach, Teslagrad 2 & More

Switch gamers now have even more to look forward to for this year: Nintendo has debuted a host of upcoming indie releases and game ports for the console in the Nintendo Indie World Showcase today, featuring over 20 different titles and content reveals from indie developers. Here at MP1st, we’ve detailed each showcased title and DLC along with the corresponding trailer below, including Blasphemous 2, the Nintendo Switch port of Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach, Teslagrad 2 & more.

Nintendo Indie World Showcase Recap – Blasphemous 2, FNAF: Security Breach, Teslagrad 2 & More:

Blasphemous 2:

The Game Kitchen and Team 17 have officially revealed the sequel to 2019’s Blasphemous. Blasphemous 2 maintains the hack’n slash combat mechanics and dark art style of the original, but improves on its formula with enhanced graphics and an expanded moveset. The title is set for a “late summer 2023” release.

Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach:

Following its 2021 release on other platforms, Steel Wool Studios and ScottGames’ Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach is now available on the Nintendo Switch. The game follows a young boy named Gregory, who must escape Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex with aid from Freddy over the course of a single night while evading new horrors as well as reimagined FNAF characters.

Teslagrad 2 and Teslagrad Remastered:

Rain Games and Modus Games have released Teslagrad 2 as well as a remaster of the original Teslagrad onto the Switch and other platforms today. Teslagrad 2 incorporates the electromagnetic powers and puzzle-platformer gameplay of the original, taking the series to a Scandinavia-inspired treacherous region. Meanwhile, Teslagrad Remastered (featuring 10 extra challenge levels) can be acquired in a bundle with Teslagrad 2 in the Teslagrad Power Pack Edition, or bought separately as well.

Mineko’s Night Market:

Mineko’s Night Market is an upcoming narrative-adventure sim from Meowza Games and Humble Games, following the young protagonist Mineko as she settles into a Japanese-inspired island at the base of Mount Fugu. Over the course of the game, Mineko can interact with and befriend the cat-worshipping locals, take part in the local festivities and other activities, and explore the many secrets of the island. The game releases on the Switch on September 26, 2023.

My Time at Sandrock:

Pathea Games’ My Time at Sandrock (published by PM Studios) is being ported to the Switch with a summer 2023 release window. The game has players working as builders in the city-state of Sandrock, collecting valuable resources to create workshops, tools, and infrastructure, exploring the open world, and taking on enemies with a polished combat system. Those with the main game will also receive access to a special online multiplayer version after the release of the game.

Shadows Over Loathing:

Asymmetric Games’ slapstick RPG Shadows Over Loathing is now digitally available on the Switch, with physical pre-orders also open now. With heavy satirical and comedic themes, the game features a sprawling black-and-white open world, turn-based combat, and multiple playable stick figure characters exploring the zeitgeist of the 1920s Prohibition era.

OXENFREE 2: Lost Signals:

Night School Studio and Netflix have revealed OXENFREE 2: Lost Signals, set for a July 12, 2023 release date on the Switch and other platforms. The narrative-focused sidescroller horror game brings OXENFREE protagonist Riley back to her hometown of Camena to “research strange electromagnetic waves.” Players can communicate with supernatural beings using a radio and connect with locals using a new walkie-talkie system in order to take on a mysterious cult in the area. Each choice players make significantly affect the progression and outcome of the story. Pre-orders for the game are open now.

Quilts and Cats of Calico:

Monster Couch’s Quilts and Cats of Calico is an adaptation of the titular award-winning board game. The game has players sew unique quilts for felines as a tailor, featuring multiplayer gameplay as well as a solo campaign. Quilts and Cats of Calico is set for a Fall 2023 release on the Switch and other platforms.

A Little to the Left: Cupboards & Drawers DLC:

Max Inferno and Secret Mode have announced the A Little to the Left: Cupboards & Drawers DLC, set for a June launch. The DLC brings 25 new puzzles with new items and secret compartments to the game, as well as new illustrations and scenarios.

Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon: Puzzler’s Pack DLC:

Vine and Yacht Club Games have unveiled the Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon: Puzzler’s Pack DLC, set for a Spring 2023 launch. The Puzzler’s Pack DLC features two new playable characters, a “Legendary Path” quest, unique “Quandary Challenges,” expansive new regions, and new cosmetics and relics through the Mr. Hat and Chester’s Shop vendors respectively.

Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith Update:

Massive Monster and Devolver Digital have now revealed the upcoming Cult of the Lamb: Relics of the Old Faith update, set for an April 24, 2023 release. The update features remixed dungeons guarded by new versions of the four guardian bishops, as well as new items, relics, enemies, buildings, recruitable followers, and a new unlockable quest. Beating the game will now unlock the new Permadeath, Gauntlet, and Boss Rush modes.

ANIMAL WELL:

Animal Well is an upcoming pixelated Metroidvania from Shared Memory and Bigmode, set in a sprawling, dark labyrinth where players can explore and find treasures in a non-linear fashion, craft upgrades and unique items, and take on a variety of hostile enemies that call the “Animal Well” home. The game will launch in 2024 for the Switch and other platforms.

Rift of the NecroDancer:

Rift of the NecroDancer is an upcoming rhythm game from Tic Toc Games and Brace Yourself Games, developed as a standalone spinoff of roguelike rhythm game Crypt of the NecroDancer and featuring lane-based combat. The game features a soundtrack composed by Danny Baranowsky and friends, and is set to release later in 2023.

PlateUp!:

It’s happening and Yogscast Games are porting their chaotic restaurant sim PlateUp! to the Switch this October. The game incorporates both cooking and restaurant management, allowing players to design and run the cartoon restaurant of their dreams with support for up to four-player multiplayer.

Crime O’Clock:

Bad Seed and Just For Games’ Crime O’Clock is releasing on the Switch and other platforms on June 30, 2023. The story-driven investigation and time exploration game has players solve crime through five different ages, using clues found in hidden objects and locations to piece stories together across multiple eras.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk:

Paper Trail:

Paper Trail is an upcoming top-down puzzle adventure game from Newfangled Games, launching this August on the Switch and other platforms. Players take on the role of Paige, an aspiring academic as she leaves home to pursue her studies. The game features a flat aesthetic-inspired world and diverse, puzzle-filled environments that players must unravel to progress and experience the story.

Little Kitty, Big City:

Little Kitty, Big City is an upcoming game from Double Dagger Studio that follows a lost cat as it struggles to make its way back home. The game features a sprawling open world full of quests and other animal characters, along with a fleshed-out customization system and significant player agency in terms of progression and exploration. Little Kitty, Big City launches on the Switch and other platforms in 2024.

Chants of Sennaar:

Runedisk and Focus Entertainment’s Chants of Sennaar is an upcoming puzzle-platformer game inspired by the Biblical myth of Babel, featuring a colorful world where players must decipher ancient languages and evade dangers using stealth in order to unite the Peoples of the Tower once again. The game releases September 5 on the Switch and other platforms.

Brotato:

Blobfish’s Brotato is coming to the Nintendo Switch (published by Seaven Studio) later this year. The funky roguelike features the iconic potato “Brotato” as he takes on alien foes while wielding six guns at the same time.

Escape Academy: The Complete Edition:

Coin Crew Games and iam8bit’s Escape Academy is coming to the Nintendo Switch this fall. The game features hand-crafted escape-room puzzles and a host of characters, with support for both local and online multiplayer and music composed by doseone (Gang Beasts, SLUDGE LIFE, Disc Room, Enter the Gungeon).
