Mario Kart World Update 1.6.0

With today’s reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, the company managed to impress with the system’s new features, the games incoming and more.

However, there is one dark cloud hovering about the upcoming console that Nintendo (understandably) didn’t reveal at the event, and it’s how much the console’s games will cost.

Nintendo Switch 2 Game Prices Are Higher Than Expected

While we’re used to games for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S to cost around $69.99 for AAA titles (and even lower for AA games), Nintendo is leaning the other way, as some games will cost more than that. One example is Mario Kart World, which has a retail price of $79.99 — yes,$10 more than the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S games.

This is something players can check themselves by checking the Mario Kart World page where you’ll see the following:

What’s odd here is, it’s not every first-party game that costs more, as Donkey Kong: Bananza, which is also a first-party title, is priced at the expected $70.

With the game’s price, it’s now even cheaper to just buy the Nintendo Switch 2 bundle that includes a digital copy of the Mario Kart World.

No word yet if third-party companies will follow suit, though we’d be very surprised if they did. As it stands now, it’s only Mario Kart World that’s priced at a higher tier, and we’ve reached out to Nintendo to get further clarification on this.

Could this new price point be somehow affected by US President Trump’s tariff sanctions against other countries? Perhaps it’s due to manufacturing costs since Nintendo games are housed in cartridges instead of discs?

If this is indeed the future we’re headed into, don’t be surprised to see AAA games like Grand Theft Auto 6 be sold for $100, as some analysts expect it might.

Once Nintendo responds to our inquiry, we’ll update the article with the info.
