Developer Horror Cam Committee and publisher Joure have announced their new indie horror game, titled “Paranormal Tales.” Paranormal Tales is a found-footage style experience where players must find their dog, Teddy, in an ominous dark forest. What’s interesting here is, the gameplay looks to be from a “bodycam” perspective, which gives it a more “real” (and frightening) vibe.

Watch the announcement trailer below:

Paranormal Tales notes 2014’s P.T. as a direct inspiration, but the supernatural enemy seen in the trailer is oddly reminiscent of The Ring’s legendary antagonist Samara Morgan. Players experience the world of Paranormal Tales through a bodycam with a fish-eye lens, and the compressed audio and visual artifacts heighten the subliminal danger of the game’s hyper-realistic forest setting. The developers plan to add accessibility options for those with motion sensitivity, as the bodycam-footage format can be nausea-inducing for many people.

From the game’s Steam page:

You likely won’t make it to the end of the footage – you must play it out for yourself and experience horror from a truly unsettling perspective.

  • Multiple Found Footage Scenarios

Various video files have been obtained by the Horror Cam Archives committee. Each file is a self-contained experience where you get to explore what happened to the people who have recorded these files. Are you able to survive each found footage file?

  • Exploration

Explore various locations, whom all tell greatly different stories for the player to experience.

  • Body-cam Styled Gameplay

Experience the world from the viewpoint of a body-cam. Including auditory and visual effects to complete the immersion.

  • Hyper Realistic Environments

The game is developed with a sense of hyper-realism to create a visually stunning and memorable experience powered by Unreal Engine 5.

Jump Scares – Yes
Nervous Breakdowns – Yes
Anxiety – Yes
Spiders – Maybe

The game can be wishlisted now on Steam, but does not have a release timeframe as of yet. For more information, early fans can join the official Discord, and can also support the development of the game through the developer’s Patreon.
